Volunteers are an extremely important factor to the success of the Pig Out. They play a key role, working with the public to ensure safety, security and enjoyment for all who attend. Volunteers work in a variety of areas at the festival. Volunteering is fun and a great way to meet new people while assisting the Aberdeen Downtown Association, a non-profit 501(c)(6) organization.
What are the requirements for volunteering?
The minimum age for volunteers is 17. Younger volunteers are welcome, but we ask that they work along with Mom or Dad. Volunteer areas will coincide with age appropriateness. Volunteers must be able to withstand heat and sun, as the Pig Out is an outdoor event.
How long do volunteer shifts last?
Volunteer shifts generally last 4 hours.
The Pig Out begins at 7 pm on Friday, July 10, but volunteers begin working on the set up for the festival as early as 9 am Friday morning. (Any pre-festival assistance you can offer is great!) The Pig Out continues until 1:30 am Friday, then re-opens on Saturday morning with various activities opening throughout the day lasting until 1:30 am when on Saturday, the event will be torn down. Do I get anything for volunteering at the Pig Out?
Along with that "warm and fuzzy" feeling for helping out one of the largest community events in Aberdeen, all volunteers will receive a free Pig Out T-shirt with an exclusive design. It's free, it's hot...be a cool volunteer!
What happens after I fill out the on-line volunteer form?
Your information will be collected and the Pig Out Volunteer Coordinator will contact you about specific requirements for the area that you are interested in working.
Will I be trained to perform my job?
Most of our volunteer opportunities require little training, but the volunteer coordinator will contact your prior to the event to give you instructions and answer any questions you may have. The volunteer coordinator will also be on-hand during the festival to assist you in any way possible.
